Dr. Marek Wosinski officially retired from teaching in May 2016 after 26 years of teaching as Senior Lecturer at Arizona State University, and 50 years of teaching alltogether. Since 2016 till July 2020 he has been employed by the Department of Psychology as an Adjunct Faculty responsible for the development of the Global Network for Sustainable Development (GNSD). He is also an Affiliate Global Futures Scholar at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory.
Dr. Wosinski received his degrees in psychology (with specialization in clinical and educational psychology) from the University of Warsaw (Poland). He had internships in Montreal, London, and various mental health institutions in Poland. He came to the USA in 1990 and began teaching at ASU. Before coming to the USA Dr. Wosinski was teaching at the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, and the University of Katowice. For several years he was in charge of the Center for Teachers Training, also had his own program on national TV “Psychology for Teachers”.
At Arizona State University Dr. Wosinski has been teaching among other basic psychology courses Multicultural Perspective on Community Leadership, Multicultural Perspective on Community Development and Community Psychology. In the years 1993 – 2003 Dr. Wosinski served as a Director of Counseling Center in Mesa, AZ and in this capacity he was offering marriage counseling, as well as coordinating numerous community programs. In the year 2000 he was a finalist for the ASU Teacher of the Year Award and in 2008 received the Outstanding Educator Award granted by the Society for Community Research and Action. He published 4 books, and 50 articles in Polish and international journels.
In 2003 Dr. Wosinski earned Certificates for Life Coaching and Retirement Coaching and opened in Arizona a private practice Dr. Marek Coaching, LLC. Recntly it was registered as LLC at the Colorado Secretary of State Office (ID no: 20208067983). Since 2021 he is coordinationf the Transitions Coaching Network.
Dr. Wosinski has been very active on the international arena throughout his entire career. He was teaching as a visiting professor in the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden. As a guest lecturer and motivational speaker he has been presenting throughout Europe, North/South America and Australia to diversified audiences: teens, teachers, medical doctors, managers, parents, senior citizens and religious communities. At Arizona State University he organized two Summer Institutes on Community. He presented papers to numerous international conferences.
From 2007 till January 2014 Dr. Wosinski was building and facilitating the University-Community Partnership for Social Action Research Network (UCP-SARnet), an online network of currently 1700 students, faculty members and community activists in 75 countries. The network is compiling/housing a library of resources for community leaders and promotes various community projects in China, India (among others the development of the Gandhi College of Social Work in Bihar) and in some African countries.
In 2012 UCP-SARnet initiated partnership between Arizona State University (USA), Gandhi Research Foundation (India), and Jain Irrigation Systems, Ltd. (multinational company headquartered in India) that was formalized by signing a collaboration agreement in July 2012. The partnership has designed the project Empowerment for Peace through Leadership in Agribusiness and Sustainability; Eradicating Poverty in Rural Communities (EmPeace LABS). About 125 young community leaders from 15 African countries participated in two workshops coordinated by Dr. Wosinski (the most recent workshop took place in Senegal in 2016.)
In 2014 Dr. Wosinski, in collaboration with some paticipants of EmPeaceLABS, founded the Global Network for Sustainable Development (GNSD) It was an Internet platform aiming to promote building global partnerships in the area of sustainability and environmental education among high school students. The network was officially launched in Kathmandu (Nepal) at the meeting of all Rotary Clubs from Nepal on September 14th, 2014.
The project was presented at the International Conference on Technology, Environment and Sustainable Development held in Gwalior (India) in February 2014, Wharton Social Impact Conference in San Francisco in March 2014 and at International Conference on Education, Culture and Society (Singapore) in June 2014. Recently GNSD in collaboration with community organizations from India and Nepal is working on a project Sustainability for Peace; Investing in Youth, as well as on GNSD Sister Scools Project. In 2017 GNSD was registered in Arizona as an internationally acting NGO, Dr. Wosinski served as the president of GNSD since 2014 till 2020.
In September 2014 Dr. Wosinski together with Mr. Rajesh Jangareddy registered a new partnership organization Sustainable Transition Consulting, LLC, that became a member of Smart Cities Council. The organization affiliates about 40 international experts on different aspects of a smart city and currently is undertaking a project Smart Schools for Sustainable Smart City in collaboration with selected schools and Rotary Clubs in India, Nepal and USA. SusTranCon signed a partnership agreement with the Arizona Technology Council and together they organize Smart City Summit in Phoenix, AZ on September 28th, 2017.
SusTranCon also signed partnership agreement with the partnership with the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University. Recently Springer published a book Smart Learning in Smart Cities describing learning environment in smart cities in China. The book was co-authored by Dejian Liu, Ronghuai Huang (Dean of Smart Learning Institute), and Marek Wosinski.
In 2015 SusTranCon co-organized an international conference on Environmentally Friendly Agriculture and Horticulture in Planning of a Smart City. Conference was held in Bhopal (India) and Dr. Wosinski was a co-chair of the event. In December of 2016 SusTranCon co-organized another conference in Bhopal on the topic Environment and Agriculture in Planning of a Smart City. Dr. Wosinski is on Advisory Board for the conference on Agriculture in Emerging Economies organized by TERI University in New Delhi on January 7/8, 2017. In 2016 SusTranCon signed partnership agreement with Arizona Technology Council. The first joined project of this partnership will be Smart City Summit organized in Phoenix on September 28th, 2017. SusTranCon was terminated in July, 2020.
Dr. Wosinski was married to Dr. Wilhelmina Wosinska. His wife, professor in social psychology, retired in 2008 as a result of a massive stroke. After a long struggle with health issues she peacefully died at home on September 18, 2021. They have four daughters: Marta, Alicja, Zofia and Magdalena. Alicja died at the age of 6 as a result of a tragic accident.
