Jewel is the Web Administrator for the ASU Library. Her duties currently involve Drupal, Microsoft 365, and Springshare platform support as part of the Communications and Web Services unit. Her first career was in education and art where she taught art history, metals and design at the college level and was a studio artist making and selling one-of-a-kind jewelry for many years. She followed her passion for technology into a second career in web design and development with an emphasis on beautiful design, accessibility, UX, and clean, efficient code. She is an avid student and practitioner in cyber security and was one of 36 students from a national applicant pool of 1,200 to win a full scholarship to the Women's Cyber Immersion Academy through SANS Institute for their 2023-2024 cohort.
Jewel spent over 12 years designing, building and managing digital assets and e-commerce for the Heard Museum before coming to ASU. As is the case with many non-profits, she wore many hats and duties ranged from ground up design/build interactives for exhibitions to new websites, websites/hosting maintenance and customizations, IT help desk, graphic design, social media, design and management of monthly emails to over 20,000 subscribers/members, general customer service via the main contact email and event photography. She developed a deep appreciation for Native art and culture while with the Heard. Jewel is most proud of designing and building the exhibition interactives and website for the museum's signature exhibition, "Away from Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories." One of her interactives was chosen by the NEH to be included in their traveling "NEH on the Road" exhibition series, which will run through 2025. In addition to continuing to make art in metals and photography, she also teaches metals at a local studio and maintains a busy digital freelance business with private clients and with a local WordPress agency.
