Joanne Baker Waters

A visual artist specializing in textiles, fiber, drape, tailoring and film, utilizing an extensive background in Fashion Design and Bespoke Tailoring, that explores artisan weaving, with signature sharp pattern cutting, and hand tailoring techniques, using Savile Row expertise gained from an apprenticeship at Gieves & Hawkes, Savile Row, London.  Awarded and honored by The Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors, Est 1327, London, for winning two awards: “Best Bespoke Tailor” and “Best Womenswear Tailor” in 2005, and again in
2010.

Known for signature sharp suits, sculptural hand tailoring, genderless design, and the author of "Pattern Cutting Techniques for Ladies’ Jackets", published by The Cromwood Press, in 2017. Concerned that the skill of tailoring was diminishing, she embarked on the project in 2013, with the hope to inspire the next generation of bespoke apprentices and fashion enthusiasts with a focus on exquisite tailoring, acknowledging the craft, and a focus on design.

The former Head of Menswear Design at Calvin Klein, New York, working with Creative Leaders Raf Simons, Pieter Mulier, and Mathieu Blazy. Originally sponsored to relocate to  NewYork, by the iconic Calvin Klein himself to direct Menswear Collection. As a fashion designer in New York, Jo has also worked for Anna Sui in 1998, famously designing the silver Lenny Kravitz biker outfit and Marc Jacobs in 2012. As a fashion designer in London, Jo designed for the late Richard Nicoll and Jonathan Saunders through 2007 and 2013.

She lives and works between Los Angeles, and London, while practicing as a
visual Artist combining wearable art & bespoke tailoring to order. Jo explores inspiration from historicism, art, sculpture, popular culture, and cinematic film noir references influencing lavish art clothes and installations, which then re-enters into mass media in the form of magazines, film, and Instagram.
