Craig Baehr, Ph.D., is Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication, Arizona State University Faculty Associate, and published author with more than 25 years of technical communication experience. His books include Web Development: A Visual-Spatial Approach (2007), Writing for the Internet: A Guide to Real Communication in Virtual Space (2010), The Agile Communicator: Principles and Practices in Technical Communication (2024), and the forthcoming Information Experience: Strategies and Tactics of Information Design (2025). He has taught a wide range of technical communication courses at the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral levels, including information design, publications management, professional report writing, user experience, and web development and coding.
His academic and professional background includes published and presented works on information and instructional design, hypertext theory, professional certification, user experience, and visual-spatial thinking. As Chief Examiner, he helped develop and manage the Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) professional certification in technical communication. He also has served as Executive Editor of Intercom Magazine and Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication.
Previously, he worked in academia as professor and graduate program director of technical communication at Texas Tech University and in industry as a technical writer/editor, Web developer, and program director for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He has also served as AMPG International accredited professional trainer, and fellow and past president of the Society for Technical Communication (STC).
