Alex Ma

Dr. Alex Ma is an Associate Professor at the Sidney Poitier New American Film School and Associate Director of the Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center at Arizona State University. His work focuses on the intersection of creative content, business, and technology, bridging artistic practice with emerging innovations. He has led research projects supported by competitive international, national, and regional funding programs and has published and reviewed for respected venues, including Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, and Elsevier.

A multifaceted scholar-practitioner, Dr. Ma’s career is defined by a commitment to integrating academic rigor with industry innovation. He brings over fifteen years of experience in film and media, including eight years in supervisory and consultancy roles with the international division of Warner Bros. In addition to his industry work, his creative projects have been screened at prestigious events such as the Shanghai International Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, and Busan International Film Festival, among others.

Dr. Ma also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and has previously held faculty appointments at leading research universities. He received his Master of Fine Arts in Film from Columbia University’s Creative Producing Program and is an alumnus of Peking University and the Beijing Film Academy.
