Piplu Bhuiyan is a young researcher and scholar specializing in neurodegeneration, particularly Alzheimer's disease. He is currently a postdoctoral research scholar at the ASU Banner Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center. His research investigates the role of SMAD2 in memory consolidation and gene regulation in aging and Alzheimer's disease. Previously, Piplu worked at the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN), where he concentrated on intracellular calcium dysregulation in neurodegeneration (AD, ALS) and the development of disease-modifying drugs (Dantrolene). He has significantly advanced the field with many published studies, including research on how mast cells relate to postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD), the connections between the immune system and the brain (gut-brain axis), neuroinflammation, and drugs that can modify progression of neurodegenerative diseases (intranasal dantrolene).
