Matthew O'Brien is the Associate Director of Academic Services in Barrett, The Honors College. He has been serving as an Honors Advisor for the last twelve years, and has extensive experience working in Academic Affairs. In his role with Barrett, he assists in the operation and supervision of the Advising team, and continues to support student questions, goals, and achievements.
Matt teaches HON 294 - Peer Mentoring: Leadership Development. This class focuses on the work of the Barrett Mentoring Program and fostering leadership skills among the peer mentors. Within this class, students grow as leaders and develop communication skills that are both intentional and effective.
Previously, Matt worked with the W. P. Carey School of Business as a Graduate Programs Coordinator, specifically with the Evening and Weekend MBA programs. In two years at WPC, Matt oversaw students through their coursework, provided support to faculty and classrooms on and off-site, advised students on elective courses, and facilitated an international business study abroad program to Argentina. Prior to ASU, Matt worked in Residence Life, including two years at the University of Kentucky as a Hall Director, and summers at Brown University and the University of Notre Dame.
