Marco Janssen

Marco Janssen is a professor in the School of Sustainability and director for the Center for Behavior, Institutions and the Environment. He studies how people govern shared resources in the lab, field, cyberspace and outer space. Those shared resources include water, energy and critical minerals. To address these questions he combines behavioral experiments, agent-based modeling, and case study analyses.

In one of his applied studies, he works with NGOs to test whether behavioral games can be effective intervention tools to address groundwater problems in rural India. In other studies, he works with artists to understand, engage and experience collective decision making in extreme conditions, like water scarcity in the southwest or a habitat on Mars.

Marco is also involved in increasing accessibility of research and educational material via open science and open access educational materials.
