Karla Murphy

Karla Murphy is senior lecturer and the project manager for the New College Writing Program in the School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies at Arizona State University's West campus. Murphy earned her master's degree in English education from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and her doctorate in English and women’s and gender studies from the University of Toledo. She joined the ASU faculty in 2005 and currently teaches courses in the New College Writing Program, women’s studies, English and American studies. In spring 2014, Murphy was recognized for exemplary teaching with the Outstanding Teaching – Lecturer Award.

Murphy is currently working with Michael Stancliff, director of the New College Writing Program, to create inquiry-based writing curriculum for first-year composition courses taught at the West campus. She has also, as a part of this professional team, put together and offered writing workshops for ASU faculty as well as local high school teachers.

In addition, Murphy is a Barrett Honors faculty fellow and serves on several campus groups and committees, including the New College Online Educator’s Group (OLEg), QM Review, Writing Outcomes Committee, and the Executive Advisory Board Committee for the School of Humanities, Arts, and Cultural Studies.
