Erinanne Saffell

Erinanne Saffell, PhD is the State Climatologist of Arizona, Executive Director of the Arizona State Climate Office, and Senior Global Futures Scientist with the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory. 

Dr. Saffell concentrates on weather, water, and climate in Arizona and the Southwest, in particular focusing on risk, resilience, and mitigation of flood, heat, wildfire, and drought. She provides details and context to communities, agencies, and the general public through media interviews, reports, and invited presentations.

As Associate Teaching Professor with the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at Arizona State University, Dr. Saffell develops and directs courses and seminars in Physical Geography, Meteorology, and Climatology, and guides K-12 outreach and training programs. 

Erinanne Saffell was appointed as the Arizona State Climatologist in 2021 and confirmed by the Arizona Senate in 2022. As the State Climatologist of Arizona, Dr. Saffell serves the people of Arizona in understanding Arizona's weather, water, and climate. 

Dr. Saffell supports local, county, state, tribal, and federal colleagues in building solutions, establishing priorities, and coordinating outcomes for Arizona and the Southwest. She was honored as a member of the Center for Homeland Defense and Security Executive Leaders Program (Cohort 2502).
