Yixin Shi’s research is focused on molecular biology, bacteriology and biochemistry. Shi analyzes the virulent elements necessary for bacterial survival in host environments, homeostasis of metal ions, and two-component regulation systems in Porphyromonas gingivalis.
His goal is to characterize the molecular mechanisms essential for virulent bacteria including Salmonella, Escherichia coli and P. gingivalis. He also investigates post-transcriptional regulation of metal ion homeostasis of bacteria in the conditions that mimic host environments. His work addresses regulatory mechanisms underlying the secretion of multiple virulence factors through a novel secretion system.
Professor Shi received his Ph.D. in bacterial genetics from Kyushu University, Japan, and served as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Molecular Microbiology at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. His research currently focuses on gene regulation in P. gingivalis, E. coli andSalmonella.
