Steve Salik

Dr. Steve Salik is a Clinical Associate Professor of Learning Design and Technologies in the Mary Lou Fulton College of Teaching and Learning Innovation at Arizona State University. His research and practice focus on designing and developing highly effective learning experiences in online and blended environments. His current work explores how generative AI and other emerging technologies can enhance instructor presence, provide student support, create timely and effective feedback, and strengthen communication as a central modality for improving learner engagement and success. Dr. Salik earned an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University.

Dr. Salik serves as a Program Coordinator for the Learning Design and Technologies (LDT) M.Ed. and Certificate Programs, focusing on quality, rigor, and innovation to ensure instructional excellence, programmatic consistency, and meaningful assessment across all courses. His leadership emphasizes evidence-based design practices, the integration of situated and scenario-based learning, and the use of AI-enabled mentoring and support to create authentic, performance-focused learning experiences.

He also serves as the coordinator for the Mastercard Foundation e-Learning Scholars Program, which builds instructional design capacity across ten partner institutions, predominantly across Africa. Dr. Salik has been instrumental in developing global partnerships that extend ASU’s learning design expertise to international initiatives supporting digital transformation and workforce development.

Prior to joining the Mary Lou Fulton College of Teaching and Learning Innovation, Dr. Salik served as Director of Online Academic Services at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. In that role, he was one of the primary architects of the Online MBA Program, helping establish it as one of the nation’s leading models for digital business education. He also oversaw the development of innovative online learning experiences across graduate and executive programs, collaborating with global partners to expand ASU’s reach in technology-enabled learning.

Dr. Salik formerly held an appointment as a Graduate Adjunct Faculty Member in the Department of Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning (OPWL) in the College of Engineering at Boise State University. Beyond academia, he has contributed to the evolution of digital learning technologies, serving in advisory and product development roles for companies such as Blackboard, TechSmith, and Ensightful.
