Hilary Harp

Hilary Harp was trained in sculpture at Parsons School of Design (BFA 1987) and Tyler School of Art (MFA 1994) and creates sculptures, videos, installations and media projects that celebrate experimental and counter-hegemonic aesthetics including camp, psychedelia, folk art and science fiction. Harp has been the recipient of numerous awards including a Pew Fellowship in the Arts, a Heinz Foundation Creative Heights Grant and two Arizona Commission on the Arts Research Grants. Harp has been awarded residencies at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA and the Djerassi Resident Artist Program in Woodside, CA. Harp’s sculptures and installations have been exhibited nationally at such venues as The Sculpture Center, NYC, The Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Wilmington, DE, and The Pittsburgh Glass Center, PA. Since 2003, Harp has collaborated with Suzie Silver on a wide range of internationally visible projects. Their on-going project, Fairy Fantastic!  is a platform for the production and presentation of experimental queer folk and fairy tale films. Their curated screenings of experimental queer folk tale videos and queer shorts have been presented in such venues as the Carnegie International’s Cinematheque, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and the Andy Warhol Museum. Their in-progress video, “Better Out Than In” has received funding from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the Arizona State University Herberger Research Investment, and The Carnegie Mellon Frank Ratchye Fund for Art at the Frontier. Their videos have screened at hundreds of festivals on five continents and are distributed by the Video Data Bank.
