Long Bio
John Barton is the Director of the Clinical Psychology Center (CPC) and an Associate Clinical Professor for the Department of Psychology at Arizona State University. He is a Diplomate, American Board of Professional Psychology, a fellow in the American Academy of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Pediatric Psychology and the Arizona Psychological Association.
Barton has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Introduction to Psychology, Abnormal Child Psychology, Assessment of Children, Advanced Psychological Assessment, Beginning Practicum, Brief Strategic Therapy, and the Summer Assessment Seminar. As director of the CPC, he supervises the clinical work of student-therapists in the center and co-ordinates field placements. He is also the chair of the Placement and Clinic Policy Committee and faculty representative on the CPC's Child and Family Team and the Health Psychology Team. In addition, Barton is a member of the faculty and psychologist in the Department of Behavioral Medicine, Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's Hospital. He is also an Associate Professor in the child clinical track at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix. He specializes in the assessment and treatment of ADHD, learning disorders, and adjustment to chronic illness. Barton's specialty competence is certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. Dr. Barton is the Training Director of the APA-accredited doctoral internship program and Post-doctorate Fellowship/Residency in Pediatric Pscyhology. He has worked in an outpatient managed care setting, in private practice, and as clinical director of Westbridge Center for Children. He received his doctorate from Arizona State University where he was the Outstanding Graduate Student. He received internship training in pediatric psychology from Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. Barton is a graduate, with high distinction, of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Clinical Interests:
Assessment and treatment of ADHD and LD children, adolescents, and adults; Child adjustment to chronic illness; Parenting difficult children, resilience, motivational interviewing.
Clinical Projects:
Supervision of individual, family, and group therapy for anxiety, depression, anger, chronic illnesses, and/or relationship problems
Supervision of psychological evaluation of ADHD, learning disorders, and the visually impaired
Use of evidence-based approaches to treatment
Partnerships with local schools, community service agencies and churches for programs on violence prevention, stress management, and improving child social skills
