Ronald L. Rutowski earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a doctorate in neurobiology and behavior from Cornell University. He joined the faculty at Arizona State University in 1976 where he worked until 2016 when he retired. Although now retired, he remains professionally active in teaching and research.
His research examines function and percpetion of bright coloration in animals as well as the mechanisms that produce coloration. Butterflies are a special focus of his studies.
