Associate Professor Elizabeth K. Anthony is a scholar who studies young people exposed to adversity. Her areas of expertise include thriving among children and adolescents exposed to environmental stressors. Professor Anthony also studies the use of research evidence to inform public school safety and strategies to improve school retention and graduation rates.
Professor Anthony has been quoted in local and national news sources for her work on trauma recovery and school safety.
Professor Anthony's current research explores the many ways adolescents in challenging life situations experience and express joy.

Dr. Anthony is a fellow of the Society for Social Work and Research and a Member of the Coalition for the Promotion of Behavioral Health. An author of Unleashing the Power of Prevention published by the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council, Dr. Anthony works with esteemed colleagues from across the country to prepare practitioners for prevention.
Dr. Anthony is particularly passionate about designing and disseminating free training services for those interested in promoting the well-being of children:
1. The Sanford Inspire training modules on Child Well-Being offers training modules on Drug Use, Child Abuse and Neglect, and Trauma for teachers and practitioners
2. The Coalition for the Promotion of Behavioral Health offers Prevention Training Modules for social workers and social work educators.
Locally, Dr. Anthony supports equitable policies and programs for all Arizona youth. Her research and service address the need for increased funding for school social workers, counselors, and psychologists in public schools to address behavioral health concerns.
