Shirley K Rose is professor in the English Department of The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, where she teaches graduate courses in writing program administration, writing for scholarly publication, and archival research methods. She is also Co-Director of the WPA Consultant-Evaluator Service. She was Director of ASU Writing Programs on the Tempe campus from 2009 through 2019.
Professor Rose's research and publications focus on writing program administration; writing teacher preparation; citation studies; and archival research, theory, and practice. She is also interested in studies of writing through the lifespan and climate activist rhetorics and literacies.
Professor Rose was the President of ASU's University Senate and Chair of the University Academic Council for the 2019-20 academic year, during which she served as Chair of the Arizona Faculties Council.
She is a Past President of the Council of Writing Program Administrators and since 2014 she has directed the WPA Consultant-Evaluator Service, which provides reviews of U.S and international college writing programs. She is also a Reviewer in the Peer Corps of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and a member of the HLC's Institutional Actions Council.
She came to ASU in fall 2009 from Purdue University, where she directed the award-winning program in Introductory Composition (ICaP).
