Álvaro Cerrón-Palomino is an associate professor of Hispanic linguistics at the School of International Letters and Cultures, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on Spanish language variation, Spanish in the U.S. Southwest, and history of the Spanish language.
His previous experience includes stints at Peruvian universities, such as the Pontifical Catholic University and the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences, and American colleges, such as Loyola Marymount University and West Los Angeles College.
Cerrón-Palomino obtained his doctorate in Hispanic linguistics at the University of Southern California, and his teaching and research interests include variationist sociolinguistics, dialectology, and historical linguistics. Cerrón-Palomino’s main area of research is morpho-syntactic variation in understudied varieties of Spanish, both monolingual and bilingual. His publications include articles in journals like Spanish in Context, Sociolinguistic Studies, Lingüística, Studies ih Hispanic and Lusophone Linguistics, and the International Journal of Bilingualism, among others.
