David Jinks graduated New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Media, specialty Digital Film. These classes gave him a great perspective about the many disciplines within the field of film and broadcasting. These classes include production, editing, cinematography, sound design, directing and acting. Jinks has also had excellent opportunities outside the classroom. In the Summer of 2011, he worked as a Grip Intern on the movie “The Odd Way Home” that was filmed in and around Las Cruces, New Mexico. In the summer of 2013 because of this experience he was able to get an internship with HSN as a production operations Intern, and work in a different studio environment that runs 24/7. During his time at New Mexico State Jinks completed an Associate’s degree in Applied Sciences in Computer Technology as well to have experience with computers.
Jinks started to work for the media industry since 2009 when he got a student job for Aggie Vision at KRWG as a camera operator. Over the years he moved from part time to full time. During that time he learned different positions such as EVS operator, audio mixer, technician, stats producer, technical director, engineer, producer, and director for live NMSU athletic event broadcasts. He also produced, shot and edited segments for NSMU’s coaches show New Mexico State Sports Weekly and Aggie Profiles. During his time there Jinks was hired by ESPN when they came to Las Cruces to broadcast for NMSU sporting events.
Jinks then moved to KOAT ABC 7 in Albuquerque as a production specialist where he experienced what a news station was. He continued to become very versatile by learning the various different positions of camera operator, floor director, audio mixer, engineer and master control operator. Jinks helped them build, light and create new shots for the new studio that they built.
Jinks then move to his most current position of Tech Producer/Director at Arizona State University. He currently records and livestreams ASU events and Sports press conferences, then edits and posts them to the internet. He usually helps with producing the event with the client. Along with that he helps collaborate with the creative team with commercials and shoots.
