Robert Niebuhr is a faculty fellow at Barrett; his scholarship has focused on the political and military history of former Yugoslavia, aspects of modern German history, and twentieth-century Bolivian history.
Niebuhr has lived and studied abroad, beginning with a year in Croatia as a Fulbrighter in 2003-4 and from 2010 until 2013 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. In Croatia, he did archival research for his M.A. thesis and attended courses at the University of Zagreb. Later, he spent considerable time in former Yugoslavia doing research and working in Bosnia-Hercegovina (Mostar and Sarajevo), Kosovo (Prishtina), and in Serbia (Novi Sad and Belgrade). In Bolivia, he taught at Universidad Nur and Universidad Católica Boliviana “San Pablo” alongside a project based on archival research on the Chaco War (1932-35).
