Kerrie Anne Loyd

I am trained as a wildlife biologist and taught for the biology and environmental science programs at the Lake Havasu City campus for 13 years. I recently transferred to the School of Life Sciences and facilitate ASU Online undergraduate biology, ecology, and conservation classes. I enjoy leading study abroad programs and spent three summers teaching in Tanzania and one in Ecuador. I worked as an environmental education professional in Atlanta, Georgia, before attending graduate school and engaging in higher education. I am particularly interested in urban and suburban ecology. My peer-reviewed publications focus on depredation of wildlife by domestic cats in residential and protected areas and management options for populations of stray cats. The National Geographic Critter Cams team supported my dissertation research, and NBC Nightly News, NPR All Things Considered, and ABC's 20/20 highlighted our work. For 11 years, my undergraduate students in Lake Havasu City helped me monitor nest success and productivity of urban Western burrowing owls. The Arizona Game and Fish Department, ASU Lake Havasu City programs, and Arizona Field Ornithologists supported this project, and the results will be published in 2026.
