Maria Dixon

Maria V. Dixon is a Clinical Professor in the Speech and Hearing Sciences unit at Arizona State University (ASU), specializing in speech-language pathology with a focus on autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With over two decades of experience, she has expertise in working with children and young adults with autism, language learning disabilities, and bilingual children with speech and language disorders. At ASU, Professor Dixon coordinates graduate student internships, collaborates with school district leadership, and provides in-situ clinical education. She also directs the ASU Peer Program for Socialization (APPS), a summer program for teens and young adults with autism, and is certified in PEERS® for School-Based Professionals.

Professor Dixon is the co-founder and co-director of the Employment Assistance and Social Engagement (EASE) program, supporting autistic engineering students at ASU, and serves as the faculty advisor for the Advocating Sun Devils: Autistics on Campus student organization. She is a Co-PI for the Autism Spectrum Disorder Translational Team, developing evidence-based interventions for individuals with autism, and is the program director for a training grant on interdisciplinary clinical practice between Speech-Language Pathologists, special education teachers, and other educational professionals. Additionally, she is involved in community-based research and clinical training to improve educational outcomes for students with autism and other developmental disorders.
