Margarita Pivovarova (Ph.D in Economics, University of Toronto) applies her training in economics and quantitative methodologies to study education policy issues. Dr. Pivovarova is interested in the design and evaluation of educational policies aimed at improving schools, schooling outcomes, and working conditions of teachers.
Since joining the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College in 2013, Dr. Pivovarova has engaged in research of teacher quality and teacher retention. In her second line of inquiry, she studies the relationship between school contexts and academic achievement of immigrant students. Prior to that, she examined peer effects among students and their effect on educational outcomes. Professor Pivovarova teaches graduate courses in economics of education, quantitative data analysis, and research and evaluation in education.
