Sören Hammerschmidt is adjunct faculty in English at Arizona State University, where he currently teaches Discovery Seminars for The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; he has also taught first-year and advanced composition courses, second-language writing, developmental writing, literature courses, and composition and professional development courses for students in the School of Life Sciences.
His other hat is a powdered wig: when he can tear himself away from commenting on thesis statements, transitions, and APA style, he returns to work on eighteenth-century and Romantic correspondence networks, media culture and Book History, portraiture, and authorship in Britain and across the Atlantic.
Recent work has appeared in the European Romantic Review, Eighteenth-Century Fiction, The Edinburgh History of Scottish Literature, and other venues, supported by research fellowships from the American Society for Eighteenth Century Studies, the Canadian Society for Eighteenth Century Studies, the Center for 17th- & 18th-Century Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, the American Philosophical Society, and the Huntington Library in San Marino, CA. Hammerschmidt is currently co-editing (with Louise Curran and George Justice) volume 9 of The Cambridge Edition of the Correspondence of Samuel Richardson.
