Dr. Pei-yu Sharon Chen is the Red Avenue Foundation Professor and Chair of the Department of Information Systems at the W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University. She is also the founding director and co-director of the Center for AI and Data Analytics (AIDA) for Business and Society, also known as the Mindful AI Center). Prior to joining ASU, she served on the faculty at Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University and Fox School of Business, Temple University. She received her PhD from Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Chen is an internationally recognized scholar and has been named a Distinguished Fellow of INFORMS-Information Systems Society, an honor that recognizes outstanding intellectual contributions to the Information Systems Discipline. She is also a recipient of the Dean’s Distinguished Research Career Award at the W. P. Carey School of Business at 2021. Dr. Chen’s work has been published in leading business journals such as Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Operations Research, and Production and Operations Management. Her scholarly work has received more than 15,000 citations on Google Scholar, and many of her studies have attracted industry interests and informed practice. She has worked with corporate partners across a wide range of industries, including e-commerce, education, financial services, information technology, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and construction.
Dr. Chen's recent work aims to ensure that AI can better our lives, society and the world by focusing on responsible innovation, understanding AI's broader and longer term impacts, and mindfully applying AI and data analytics to advance business while enhancing social welfare.
Professionally, Dr. Chen currently serves as Senior Editor for Information Systems Research and previously served as an Associate Editor for Management Science from 2009-2025. She has co-chaired several premier academic conferences/workshops and served on several important award committees in the IS community. Dr. Chen is a recognized thought leader and a frequent invited speaker, keynote presenter and panelist at leading academic institutions, premier conferences/workshops, public forums, and industry events. She has also been featured by ABC15, Fox10, Arizona PBS, TVBS, and other news outlets.

My research focuses on the strategic interactions of information technology and business, in particular, how can firms shape and generate value from use of AI and data analytics and the abundant information available to them.
