Dr. Pei-yu Sharon Chen is the Red Avenue Foundation Professor and the Chair of the Department of Information Systems. She is also the founding director and co-director of the Center for AI and Data Analytics (AIDA) for Business and Society (aka the Mindful AI Center) at the W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University. Prior to joining ASU, she served on the faculty at Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University and Fox School of Business, Temple University. She received her PhD from Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Chen is a world renowned researcher and is a Distinguished Fellow of INFORMS-Information Systems Society, which recognizes her outstanding intellectual contributions to the Information Systems Discipline. She was also awarded the Dean’s Distinguished Research Career Award at the W. P. Carey School of Business. Dr. Chen’s work has been published in leading business journals such as Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Operations Research, and Production and Operations Management. Many of Dr. Chen’s research has triggered industry interests and been implemented in practice. Dr. Chen has also worked with many corporate partners in research, in industries such as E-commerce, Education, Financial Services, Information Technology, Health Care, Manufacturing and Retailing.
Dr. Chen's recent research and work aim to ensure AI can better our lives, society and the world by focusing on responsible innovation, understanding AI's broader impacts, and mindfully applying AI and data analytics tools to advance business and enhance social welfare.
Professionally, Dr. Chen currently serves as Senior Editor for Information Systems Research and Associate Editor for Management Science. She has also served as co-chair for several premier conferences/workshops and has been frequently invited as a speaker or panelist in premier conferences/workshops and at other leading research universities.

My research focuses on the strategic interactions of information technology and business, in particular, how can firms shape and generate value from use of AI and data analytics and the abundant information available to them.
