Joana Girante is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Economics Department at Arizona State University. Joana is an award-winning teacher who has taught around 10,000 students since moving to ASU in 2014. She also serves as Online Course Coordinator for the Economics Department.
Joana specializes in developing and implementing novel teaching methods that boost performance and decrease attrition. She has taught in large auditoriums as well as in small classrooms and online, using traditional in-person lectures, hybrid formats, and flipped classes. She currently teaches Principles of Economics (micro and macro). Her research focuses on evaluating novel teaching methods. She is passionate about teaching students to think like economists and to use economics to interpret the world and make better-informed decisions. Joana obtained her Ph.D. in Economics from North Carolina State University (2008) and MS (2001) and BS (1998) degrees in International Trade and International Relations from the University of Minho (Portugal) where she was on the faculty from 2008 to 2014.
