Dr. Amy L. Pate is the Director of Learning Technology in the Office of the Provost at Arizona State University, where she leads initiatives in inclusive teaching, instructional design, and emerging technologies.
Her research focuses on the role of instructional designers in shaping global education, with an emphasis on reciprocal learning models that foster intercultural empathy and strengthen social cohesion. She founded and leads the Global Instructional Design Community of Practice (GlobalID CoP), a collaborative platform that advances inclusive course design across cultural contexts. Her research on Developing Ethnorelative Worldviews for Instructional Designers, explores international academic partnerships that expand professional opportunities for designers worldwide. She has presented her work at institutions including the University of Helsinki and Münster University, mentored Fulbright scholars, and collaborated globally to enhance online and hybrid course design for diverse learners.
At ASU, Dr. Pate has most recently worked on AI Literacy for both faculty and students, emphasizing principled innovation, teaching inclusively, and building accessible course content. She leads ASU's ID Quarterly meetings and FOLC Learning Design Summer Camp. Across these projects, she is committed to reimagining higher education as a civic space where global perspectives, inclusive practices, and principled innovation shape the future of learning.
