Brenda Morris, EdD, MS, RN, CNE is a Clinical Professor of Nursing at the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. She currently teaches in the Master of Science in Nursing program including the Nurse Educator track. Prior to her current assignment, she taught in the Prelicensure BSN programs for over 10 years and in the RN/BSN program for 6 years.
Additionally, Dr. Morris has over 12 years of experience holding progressive academic leadership positions as the Director for the Prelicensure BSN program, Senior Director for Baccalaureate Nursing, Assistant Dean, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. During this time, her scholarship and service focused on increasing access to higher education for under-represented students, developing academic-practice partnerships, and creating and implementing innovative nursing and health professional degree programs. Her current areas of interest include competency based education, patient and family education, student success, all aspects of nursing education including assessment and evaluation of learning, teaching methods, and program evaluation, and workforce development. Her clinical areas of interest include healthy aging, and healthy living with chronic disease.
Dr. Morris earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and Master of Science degree in Nursing with a clinical focus in Adult Health Nursing and a role focus in Nursing Education from the University of Arizona. She earned her Doctor of Education degree with a focus in Adult/Higher Education from Arizona State University. Dr. Morris has been certified as an academic nurse educator through the National League for Nursing, since 2008.
Dr. Morris has authored or co-authored presentations and publications in areas of expertise such as academic-practice partnerships, competency based education, critical thinking, evidence-based practice, faculty development, interprofessional education; patient and caregiver education, learning environments, and teaching methods. Prior to coming to Edson College, she taught in associate degree nursing programs in Arizona and Louisiana.
