Elizabeth Kizer

Dr. Kizer has ten years public service experience in Arizona county governments.  She has five years of experience as an administrator in rural health as a public fiduciary, local health officer and correctional health director.

Since joining ASU in 2017, Dr. Kizer has primarily focused on teaching undergraduate classes in the Health Care Administration and Policy program (previously named Science of Health Care Delivery).  She became the degree director for that program in Spring of 2019.  Her teaching interests include research methods, data analysis (biostatistics and qualitative), public/population health, public mental health and process engineering.

Dr. Kizer's mixed-methods research focused on the use of community health assessments and community health improvement plans in the development and implementation of environmental and policy-level initiatives.  Additionally, she facilitated a community-based participatory research initiative in a rural community to assess and improve the nutrition environment.  Specifically, she examined whether a geographically dispersed backyard garden program impacted the rural food environment by increasing the availability of fresh foods.  Presently she is utilizing a community-based participatory research framework to improve social determinants of health support for marginalized populations in community health care settings.
