Brenda Collins

Brenda M. Collins is a mathematics education instructor in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. She focuses on training future educators in elementary and secondary mathematics teacher preparation with a real-world, heuristic learning approach using manipulatives and contemporary technology. Professor Collins is passionate about teacher preparation in mathematics methods courses. A veteran educator, she taught in public schools prior to coming to ASU for 23 years across grades 6-12, everything from Physical Education, Middle School Math, Algebra I and II, Geometry, up to AP Statistics. She utilizes manipulatives, both real and virtual, to prepare preservice teachers. Collins engages pre-service math students with an approach that illuminates teaching theory and research and provides deep and meaningful comprehension of mathematics. She is proud to serve as a clinical instructor supervising teachers in the field in the teacher college's graduate teacher preparation program. Ms. Collins taught mathematics and tennis for 23 years in middle and high schools located in both Texas and Arizona.  Collins has been a proud member of the MLFTC since 2015.
