I have been part of ASU West Valley Campus for almost a decade now and I have seen and lived the evolution of the Forensic Science Program almost from the start.
Forensic Science as a whole, human remains, and DNA analysis are longstanding passions of mine besides teaching and preparing students for future experiences in the field and in the lab. I have been teaching forensic science to majors and non-majors at different learning levels...I also teach young students who see the value in science and truth.
I graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion, Paraguay in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Biology. I came to the United States and earned my MS in Forensic Science from University of California, Davis in 2010. After some up-and-downs, I had the opportunity to move to Massachusetts and finished a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology from University of Massachusetts, Lowell in 2015.
While in Massachusetts, I taught various biology and biotechnology related subjects with concentration in forensics at the Massachusetts Bay Community College for 3 years. I enjoyed sharing my time, knowledge and experiences with my students and colleagues, however, the cold and snow were too much for my South American body and my husband and I decided to move to Arizona plus ASU was giving me an amazing opportunity to teach!
I'm not planning on going anywhere until I find the evidence needed to show colleagues, students and everyone that a misuse of power separated families for decades and it is time to bring them back together!

I am currently working on our project called "They are our Parents" in conjunction with Dr. Katelyn Bolhifner and Dr. Jacob Harris. This work is based on finding mass graves of victims of the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner in Paraguay using different scientific instrumentations and techniques.
I am extremely interested in forensic anthropology and DNA analysis, especially identification of human remains. I am working towards continuing this project and start others that are based on developing protocols for a cheaper, easier and faster recognition of remains of individuals using anthropological identification, wildlife forensics and DNA profiling. I would like to share the protocols with scientists from my home country and give the families the opportunity to bring their loved ones back to the place where they truly belong.
