Kayleigh A. Stanek is a doctoral canidate at Arizona State University. Stanek received her Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University. Her research focuses on criminal justice responses to victims and victimization specifically sexual assault and domestic violence. She is also interested in victimization among special populations such as college students, American Indian women, other minority groups, and offenders and inmates. Among these groups, she is particularly interested in exploring victims’ needs in terms of programming and criminal justice responses.
Her previous work explored the relationship between police trust and procedural justice on sexual assault victims’ reporting likelihood. Specifically, her work examines how unjust treatment impacts a victim’s decision to report their victimization to the police again in the future. Currently, she is working on a project examining the lived experiences and help-seeking behaviors of Indigenous college students in response to victimization and the Missing and Murder of Indigenous Peoples. She is excited to continue her work examining victims’ needs and victimization throughout her academic studies and into her academic career.
