Dr. King is a highly knowledgeable and experienced research scientist (social science), trained in research methodology and human development with over 17 years of success in quantitative and qualitative study design, implementation, data collection, and analysis. She gained foundational experience during her time at Northwestern University as a research scientist before joining two of the largest/well-known research institutes, National Organization for Research at the University of Chicago and Research Triangle Institute/RTI International for 14 years. Dr. King had the privilege of being thoroughly engrossed in some of the most interesting, challenging, and innovative work on the National Longitudinal Study of Youth (NLSY97), Population Health Study, Basic Combat Training Mental Health Study, National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), and Census just to name a few projects she contributed to and led parts of. She gained notable experience partnering on these various projects with National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, Department of Defense, and US Census Bureau, Department of Education, etc.,
Dr. King moved into a full-time professorship at a small liberal arts college in 2014, Trinity Christian College where her work on diversity, equity and inclusion became more formalized as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion Development. She also advised student organizations such as the Black Student Union, mentored many students and served on the Campus Unity and Diversity Committee while leading the Adult Studies in Psychology program.
Dr. King relocated and joined Arizona State University in 2018 where she continued to engage in amazing research as a Research Professional in the Infant Child Research Lab, MLFTC while also contributing to the growing work at ASU in inclusion. She joined the Office of Inclusive Excellence in May 2024 where her charge is to help advance the ASU charter, where we are measured not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed; advancing research and discovery of public value; and assuming fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities it serves. In this new role, Dr. King leads and supports various initiatives and programs including the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship, Faculty Women of Color Caucus and Inclusive Excellence Academic Council and more, all with the goal of advancing our institutional needs.
