Dr. Cynthia Roses-Thema’s career in the performing arts spans responsibilities as a principal ballerina, artistic director, choreographer, master teacher, journalist, actor, and entrepreneur. Based upon this wide variety of accomplishments, the current emphasis for Dr. Roses-Thema, as teaching professor, is advocating for an understanding of how the moving human body thinks AS it moves. Courses that she has designed and taught at Arizona State University encompass: wellness through physicalizing tensegrity, physical thinking through walking, the condition of the body in society and writing the creating body. Her fourth book: Floating Bones: A Dancer’s Tensegretic Body as Teacher chronicles her journey into tensegrity imparting an in-depth understanding of how a dancer relates to her body via the geometry of relationships tensegrity provides. Dr. Roses-Thema has two teminal degrees, an MFA in dance and PhD in rhetoric and composition. She continues to pursue inquiries into theorizing and articulating the experience of movement; teaching creatively and personably in the online environment; using rhetorical/sociological frameworks to analyze the creative arts; and, communicating her ideas for a 21st century ballet pedagogy that is healthy and socially informed.
