Born and raised in Los Angeles, Evan is a dedicated educator, sports enthusiast, and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the sports industry. With a strong academic foundation, Evan holds a Bachelor's degree in Education from UC Irvine and a Bachelor's degree in Social Policy and Public Service. Additionally, Evan has a Master's degree in Sports Law and Business from Arizona State University.
Evan began his career as a Community and Youth Basketball Fellow for the LA Sparks, mentoring future athletes in the Greater Los Angeles Area who had an affinity for the WNBA. Evan then transitioned to roles in football operations with the Los Angeles Rams during their transition from St. Louis back to Los Angeles. Interested in other aspects of sports, Evan took on a role in game entertainment with the Los Angeles Chargers. After some time in the NFL and with an interest in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Evan helped establish a foundation for the United Soccer League prior to joining the Sports Law and Business Program at ASU. Guided by teamwork and excellence, Evan has spearheaded initiatives for student-athletes, including Name, Image, and Likeness Rights, pioneered a mentorship program in Sports Law and Business, and conducted research on DEI practices for Athletic Directors throughout the NCAA.
Currently, Evan serves as the Assistant Director of the Sports Law and Business Program at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, an Adjunct Professor out of the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions and the Lead Advisor for African American Men at ASU, a student organization dedicated to recruiting, retaining, and developing Black and African American Men at ASU.
With 10 years of experience as a basketball referee, Evan brings a wealth of expertise to the industry. Evan has officiated in various levels of competition, and currently officiates NCAA Men's Division 1 Basketball in the West Coast, Western Athletic, Big Sky, and Big West conferences. As a testament to Evan's commitment to fostering educational opportunities, he has successfully created a sports officiating course at ASU, providing students with valuable hands-on experience, knowledge, and a potential career path for those interested in officiating sports at the high school or college level. Through the course, Evan shares insights into the intricacies of officiating, including rules, leadership skills, communication skills, and the physical demands of the role. By providing students with practical experience and mentorship, Evan helps them develop the necessary skills to pursue officiating as a rewarding career path.
Looking ahead, Evan aims to collaborate with units across ASU to strategically integrate creative and innovative sports programs, fostering interdisciplinary connections and enhancing the overall student experience. Additionally, Evan seeks to provide strategic guidance and expertise to organizations across the sports industry, helping them navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and promote positive change.
