Idris Goodwin is a multi award winning storyteller across mediums. His ground breaking works for stage include How We Got On, Hype Man: A Break Beat Play, and Bars and Measures. He’s been commissioned and or produced by Actors Theatre of Louisville, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Arena Stage, and The Playwrights’ Center.
Goodwin has appeared on or created content for HBO Def Poetry, Sesame Street, NPR, BBC Radio, Nickelodeon and the Discovery Channel. After serving three seasons as Artistic Director of Seattle Children’s Theatre he’s been cultivating a burgeoning career an author for young readers. His picture books Your House is Not Just a House and Don’t Drop The Mic (Harpers/Clarion)along with the novel-in-verse King of the Neuro Verse (Simon & Schuster / Atheneum) form a trilogy of stories about imaginative Black boys whose curiosity—and a little tinkering with technology—opens up new worlds.
He is also a 2021 United States Artist Fellow, recognized as one of the most compelling artists living and working in the country, and The New York Times has hailed his work as “incisive and moving.”
