Jeff has been working at the intersection of law, business, and technology for nearly thirty years as both an attorney and a business executive, with a long-time focus on international issues such as US sanctions and export controls, global business transactions, and academic work on international politics. He has also taught a class on sanctions, export controls, and foreign policy at Georgetown University.
During his legal career, he worked on international trade, US sanctions, and export controls with leading innovative national and international law firms Scale LLP, Latham & Watkins LLP, and ArentFox Schiff LLP; as owner/manager of his own boutique law practice; and as in-house counsel. His clients included international corporations, individuals, and governments worldwide. He was the head of trade compliance and chief privacy officer for a federal information technology services provider and was a consultant with a global consulting firm advising clients on trade compliance throughout the world. Before becoming an attorney, he also worked in the business affairs group of America Online for five years in both Virginia and London, UK, negotiating multimillion dollar technology licensing and network service agreements.
