Qi Sun is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the ASU Learning Engineering Institute. As an interdisciplinary researcher, her work lies at the intersection of AI-enhanced learning, educational psychology, learning sciences, and cognitive and developmental sciences. Her research examines how generative AI and interactive technologies mediate human learning, cognition, and learner agency across educational contexts.
Drawing on computational, quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches, Qi studies how AI-supported learning environments can be designed, evaluated, and integrated to foster critical thinking, self-regulated learning, metacognitive engagement, and meaningful human-AI interaction. Her recent work particularly focuses on AI-based scaffolding, process-oriented learning analytics, and the use of AI interaction data as evidence of learning and cognitive development.
Across both research and teaching, Qi is interested in developing human-centered and pedagogically grounded AI learning systems that support equitable and meaningful learning experiences across age groups and contexts. Her teaching is informed by her interdisciplinary research on AI-enhanced learning, learner agency, and instructional design, including graduate and undergraduate courses in research methods, statistics, human development, lifespan development, and independent research.
