Brent is Executive Director of the Next Education Workforce Initiative at Arizona State University, where he works with colleagues across the university, P12 educators, and communities to redesign how schools are staffed. Next Education Workforce models place students at the center and wrap a team of educators around them. More than 150 schools across 18 states have implemented these models, and causal evidence shows they improve teacher retention, educator effectiveness, and student academic performance. Before coming to Arizona State, Brent co-founded the Relay Graduate School of Education, where he served as Provost, and founded TeacherSquared, a national center dedicated to improving collaboration among teacher preparation institutions. A National Board Certified Teacher in secondary science, he was a founding staff member at IDEA College Prep and earned his doctorate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
