Long Bio
Eric Margolis is a sociologist, internationally known for his work on visual ethnography and research on higher education. He has published many articles on visual ethnographic methods and on the hidden curriculum in higher education. Dr. Margolis conducted ethnographic interviews with retired miners in the Rocky Mountain West resulting in several video programs including “Out of the Depths-The Miners' Story”, a 60-minute segment of the PBS series A Walk Through the 20th Century with Bill Moyers. More than 12,000 historic photographs and 100 hours of color broadcast-quality videotape form the core of an oral history archive at the University of Colorado available in digital form on-line.
He is a Past-President of the International Visual Sociology Association and co-editor of the Sage Handbook of Visual Research.
