Kristin Gillis is a Project Manager at The Biodesign Institute for a $40M Biomarker-Based Radiation Dosimetry Project sponsored by the Biomedical Advanced R&D Authority (BARDA) to develop a high-throughput system to measure radiation dose response using gene expression analysis.
Prior to her role at BDI, she was the Project Manager of the Flexible Display Center (FDC) at ASU, a $100M contract funded by the Army Research Lab (ARL) to develop flexible information display technology for field applications. She helped launch the Center in 2004 and worked through a 5-year contract extension developing the project management system, strategic and annual planning processes and plans, reporting and outreach initiatives.
Her professional career started as an analytical project chemist for the NASA Space Shuttle and NAVSEA Submarine Atmosphere Control Programs developing test protocols and performing materials testing using GC/MS and FTIR analysis to determine toxicity hazards. As Principal Scientist/Lab Manager of environmental, propellant, materials testing and metallurgical laboratories, she gained an extensive background, with over 18 years of experience in the aerospace industry working for Honeywell, Allied Signal, and Lockheed primarily at the NASA-JSC White Sands Test Facility managing hazardous test facilities, developing and managing program requirements, standards, and controls; contributing to strategic and annual planning; guiding process improvement initiatives; and writing NASA facility management proposals. She is a graduate from New Mexico State University, earning Bachelors’ degrees in Chemistry and Biology, and where she later earned an MBA.
