Stacey Miner

As an instructor, Stacey K. Miner aims to foster explicit and implicit knowledge, understanding, and skills that are relevant across contexts. She incorporates varied types of content and activities to bring course topics to life, and her classroom and course approaches are informed by her own educational journey, interest in people and students, and professional experience in hospitality and outsourced business processes.

Studies at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, ASU Ethnographic Field Schools in Mexico, the University of Ghana, and Universidad Veritas in Costa Rica inspired her masters work in communication and thesis research on cultural learning and international education. During her graduate studies, she presented at conferences and volunteered with C.O.A.R. (Community Outreach and Advocacy for Refugees). After, she worked at a language and culture institute in Costa Rica developing, selling, and coordinating group study programs; providing international student services; and giving cultural orientations and workshops to newly arrived students, volunteers, and English teachers. After two years, Stacey returned to the U.S. and eventually to Arizona, ASU, and the university classroom as an instructor and a student. She continues her education through university courses and completed a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Her studies focus on language, culture, communication, and an intercultural approach to learning. 

Stacey has participated in extracurricular student events and received honors that include ASU Women’s Basketball Faculty of the Game, ASU Women’s Softball Guest Coach, and Devils' Advocates Apple Polisher. 

In between studies, travels, and a research internship at a strategic design firm, Stacey worked in the hospitality industry for many years and won a Shining Star award as concierge at a busy convention hotel in Chicago. She also worked in direct hire recruiting, with mentally ill adults, and periodically for anti-discrimination audits and as a spokesperson for product marketing campaigns.
