Torres is a leader in microbial electrochemical cell research, focusing on microbial kinetics of anode-respiring bacteria (ARB) and extracellular electron transport to and from solid electrodes.

Dr. Nickerson studies the effects of biomechanical forces on microbial and human cells on Earth and in space, how this response is related to normal homeostasis or disease, and translation to biomedical/biotech applications.

Shah’s research interests are in the field of enzymology, chemical biology amd metabolomics. Her research focuses on enzymes involved in a variety of metabolic pathways found in human microbiome and in human cancers.
