Grant McFadden directs the Biodesign Center for Immunotherapy, Vaccines, and Virotherapy (BCIVV) at ASU. The McFadden lab studies how poxviruses that cause immunosuppression interact with the host immune system.

Bechtel's specific interests involve studying tick-borne pathogen interactions in desert ecosystems; however, she is also interested in how climate change can affect pathogen transmission in amphibian populations.
