Theresa Prefontaine

Theresa Prefontaine is an Arizona native who has been affiliated with all three of Arizona’s public universities. After committing several years to teaching high school English in the Little Haiti neighborhood in Miami, Prefontaine pursued her first master’s degree in Education Policy studies at Arizona State University. She then worked for almost a decade in the non-profit sector to build the community’s capacity to solve local problems in Greater Phoenix as both a Program Director and Grant Writer. A second master’s degree was then earned in Rhetoric, Writing & Digital Media at Northern Arizona University, where she went on to teach as a lecturer in the Rhetoric area of the English department. Now at Arizona State University, Prefontaine applies her teacher action research to her work with First Year Composition students. Her students are writers who will work across the disciplines to solve community problems. Prefontaine is interested in students’ self-assessment practices and the rhetorical nature of human communication.
