Sam is a passionate qualitative researcher and social scientist investigating how to enhance health outcomes and experiences across healthcare and public safety domains. Her current work as a PostDoc at the School of Complex Adaptive Systems (SCAS) focuses on improving the fairness and effectiveness of AI applications in fire departments and emergency medical services (EMS). This research aims to ensure AI tools in public safety are equitable, effective, and account for potential biases in their development and implementation.
Concurrently, Sam continues her dedication to spotlighting patient narratives in chronic illness management. She leverages interdisciplinary expertise spanning human-computer interaction, health services research, medical sociology, and science & technology studies to craft impactful stories. These narratives illuminate opportunities to influence the design and implementation of patient-centered technologies, care coordination strategies, and delivery innovations that enrich experiences.
Her skillset translates seamlessly into driving organizational performance on initiatives from intervention design to health care delivery enhancements to measuring patient-centered care improvements. She strives to forge partnerships solving challenges for government health agencies, healthcare institutions, non-profits, and other groups dedicated to improving lives. Her core mission is utilizing an equity lens and empathetic approach ensuring health systems and public safety services provide comprehensive assistance to diverse groups. Sam aims to give voice to often overlooked perspectives to inform practical improvements in care support and emergency services across all realms from information technologies to service delivery.
