Mikaella Polyviou researches supply chain disruptions, which are interruptions in the flow of goods, services, or information in a supply chain. Disruptions can be triggered by various events, such as natural disasters, pandemics, factory fires, supply shortages, or strikes.
Dr. Polyviou studies the role of individuals and the organization in improving an organization's resilience to supply chain disruptions. At the individual level, she examines how managers react to supply chain disruptions and make sourcing decisions afterward. At the organizational level, she examines an organization's capabilities and supply chain strategies that can reduce the probability and impact of supply chain disruptions. Her research on supply chain disruptions and resilience has earned funding from various associations, including the Arizona Coalition for Healthcare Emergency Response (AzCHER), the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), and the National Center for the Middle Market. She is an Associate Editor at Decision Sciences, a Senior Editor at the Journal of Business Logistics, and serves on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Operations Management and the Journal of Supply Chain Management.
Dr Polyviou regularly presents her research at academic and industry conferences and has been invited to participate in discussion panels on research and teaching topics.
At ASU, Dr. Polyviou teaches Strategic Procurement and Supply Management/ Negotiations. She received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award at the W. P. Carey School of Business in 2021.
She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Cyprus and a Master's and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. She has also been a Fulbrighter twice, attending Boston University and The Ohio State University.
