Dr. Dan Erickson (he/him/his) is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Social and Family Dynamics, and also serves as the director of the CFLE certification at ASU. He instructs both undergraduate and graduate courses in family and human development, child development, and sociology. With a decade of experience in online and in-person education across various institutions, Dr. Erickson specializes in family science and sociological theory, research methodology, and child/adolescent development.
Much of Dr. Erickson's research has been focused on sibling relationships, including sibling attachment, sibling aggression, and sibling video game use. His work extends to diverse interpersonal aspects, ranging from parent-child interactions over the lifespan to creating training resources for promoting inclusivity, advocacy, and safety for sexual minority youth within religious education.
Dr. Erickson was among the first to graduate with a Certificate in College Teaching from the University of Arizona, and earned the designation of a Certified Family Life Educator from the National Council on Family Relations. He led the yearlong effort for the Sanford School at ASU to become a CFLE-approved program through the National Council on Family Relations, and approval was granted in July 2023. An Arizona transplant of over a decade, Dr. Erickson loves to spend time in nature, especially near the ocean and forest. He loves to travel every chance he gets and treasures the opportunities he has had to travel and live abroad. Dr. Erickson's favorite time of day is any time spent with his family.
