Marva Goodson is an assistant professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Prior to her appointment at ASU, she was as a Provost's Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Sociology (2019 - 2021) and postdoctoral research fellow in the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions (CSDI) in the Department of Political Science at Vanderbilt University.
Her work aims to understand the causes and consequences of crime-involved individuals’ social network constructions. Specifically, she leverages egocentric social network analysis to identify structural and compositional network characteristics that affect crime-involved women’s access to resources and reoffending patterns. Her research is supported by the National Science Foundation and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine on behalf of the Ford Foundation, and has recently appeared in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Social Networks, Criminal Justice and Behavior, and Feminist Criminology.
