Umar Sulayman is a Fulbright scholar, an instructor of Arabic, English and Linguistics and a PhD candidate in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. Umar started his teaching career in 2001 at the University of Baghdad where he taught General Linguistics and English Grammar courses. He also taught English as a foreign language and TOEFL courses at MUC Mansour University College in Baghdad. In 2006, he received a Fulbright scholarship to do his second MA in TESOL at IUP the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 2009, he started teaching English for Specific Purposes for ONU Ohio Northern University and 2010 he was appointed the director of English for Specific Purposes program. In 2012, he established the Arabic program at ONU and started teaching Arabic as a foreign language. In 2015, he moved to Tempe and became a global educator for ASU Global Launch. He also served as the city of Phoenix/Global Launch instructor for 3 terms and a senior recruiter for the Middle East and GCC countries. In 2017, he joined SILC to be an instructor of Arabic, Iraqi culture and society and Linguistics. Umar has also been serving as the co coordinator of SILC language fair since 2018. Politics and war have had a big impact on Umar's life so he has been invited many times to talk about war, refugees and politics in the Middle East.
